The Market in the Square

27 May

**This was supposed to be posted yesterday but my internet crashed at home while I was in the middle of writing this!**

Today is the official start to the St. Andrews Market Square Farmers Market. Every Thursday morning from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm. For the last month I have been craving Thai food, tzatziki & hummus, curry, Vietnamese, sushi, and home made traditional Mexican salsa. (Not all at the same time of course!) Well let me tell you, I found all of that and more! This market is lovely… full of local character and maritime hospitality. Sadly I forgot my camera, but before you get upset, it is every Thursday for the rest of the summer… so pictures will be in weeks to come!

Some of my favorite stalls included:

  • A local family who makes a random bunch of delicious goodies, including sushi, cookies, and home-made fresh rhubarb lemonade (you can get it sparkling or still),
  •  A lady from the UK who makes homemade jellies/jams/chutneys… everyone has their favorite & I would have to say that I absolutely loved the mango chutney (sweet & spicy) and there was a balsamic twist on the traditional red pepper jelly (yum yum yum!), and
  • A man who was from Turkey who fed me all the hummus, tzatziki, and pita bread I could imagine (Reminded me a lot of Sydney Road in the Brunswick district of Melbourne, when Karina and I went on a tasting adventure with our teacher Helen).

It seems like for the last two weeks we have had nothing but rainy and gloomy days. Finally the sun decided to appear yesterday and again today! It gave me a glimpse of the summer and got me oh so excited! Sunny summer days, BBQs with pals, star-fish fishing on the pier, enjoying ice cream at the Blockhouse, swimming at Katys Cove… BRING ON SUMMER!!!
